I would be interested in hearing from any member their memories of Grange Lodge. This is a 'listed' building and dates from the 16th c. The Orme family lived there originally. Attached to this house was a farm - who lived there ? and ran the farm. Joan

After reading the Gateacre Chat - I now know that it was 'Jacksons Farm' next to Grange Lodge. The house is attached to Grange Lodge. Mrs. Jackson it is said, used to sit outside, and sell her farm produce. Are there any Jackson ancesters out there. Joan B

Hi, I was interested to read your thread about Jacksons farm being by Grange hall, I believe that Tysons Farm was near the Grange & jacksons Farm was near where Gateacre comp now stands. Tysons was a small farm compered to Jacksons, ( land area) perhaps jackson owned it? as he owned Coxhead Farm. I had many years of fun around there. happy memories.

Hello - Thanks for your thoughts about Mrs. Jacksons Farm. I wonder if there are any photographs of it in the early days ? Grange Lodge is also very old and dates from 16th century. The ORME family and the BARROW family lived there in the 18th century, when Little Woolton was governed by the Lord of the Manor. Now Lord Salisbury is our Lord of the Manor - unless anyone knows differently I see it is now up for Sale - what will happen to it, if no one wants it. Again this is a listed building, and cannot be altered in anyway. Joan

Virtually Soarer Cottages are opposite to Grange Lodge. I see it has been sold - but who has bought it. I expect Mike knows, and it will be in his next newsletter? Soarer Cottages were build for and by Col. William Hall Walker in the 1800's He bred horses. He entered the Grand National with his horse 'Soarer' Joan

Hi to you all - not exactly about Grange Lodge....
The sandstone cottage on the corner of Cuckoo Lane and Grange Lane was occupied by my family between 1911 and the 1990s. Until 1951 it was owned by the Marquis of Salisbury for whom my Gt Grandfather was Manager of the Gas Works in Rocky Lane. Afterwards it was bought by my Great Uncle and he and his wife lived there until his death in 1992. At one time, when the housing estates nearby were being built, they did run a small shop in their front room. I myself lived close by for a while during the 1950s at Gorsey Cop farm, the tenant farmer being Harry Tyson. He had to leave when the houses were built. Hope this helps everyone. Please ask if you need more information.

JBorrowscale80 - My family were called Harding. I have just one photo of the cottage taken about 1920ish. It shows my Grandfather and (my father?) standing at the gate that was across Grange Llane; the family had to open it for Horse and/or Cart traffic. Unfortunately I cannot put my hand on that photo but will post it as soon as I find it.
