Hi Folks
I have just discovered your website whilst I was researching a Gateacre family - I have listed what I know & would love to hear from anyone who can help me further.
Daisy Hampson, Hillside, Gateacre She raced cars alongside Dorothy Levitt & Victoria Godwin both at Brighton & at Southport Speed Trials in the early 1900s. She bought her first racing car (Rolls-Royce) in 1911, her second in 1913 and further cars in the 1930s.
I would love to know who she & her family where, how did she afford the cars, was she any relation to the Hampson family who founded the Vulcan Motors? HELP
Thanks
Sue

Hi Sue, Thanks for that interesting account of Daisy, I've never heard of her but she sounds quite a woman! especially in those times when it was very much a man's world. I had a look at the 1901 Census, and found two possible Daisy Hampsons; one was aged 9, born in L'pool and living as a boarder with the Gillespie family in Everton, and the other was aged 10, born in L'pool, daughter of William Henry & Mary Elizabeth, living in Toxteth Park. I checked the 1911 Gore's, but there was no Hampson living at Hillside or nearby. Same with 1938 Gore's.
Not much to go on, I'm afraid, but best of luck!
