Hi everyone
My friend and I passed through Gateacre (not for the first time) last week and enjoyed a lunch at the Bear and staff. We got talking to a local who was telling us about a near by cottage called Bear Cottage but was hazy as to why these places were called so. Does anyone know the origins and age? He said Bear Cottage is now a financial advisors. We're interested and occasionaly write about name origins in old villages. Also a little down the road was a cycle path - how old and far is this? We walked for a while but it seemed to stretch on so we about turned and ended up in the lovely Camp Hill - where we saw an actor from The Bill no less! Any information would be welcomed - Woolton and Gateacre are lovely villages.
