my family moved from Everton around 1958 ish, to new corpy house on childwall valley. thought it was marvellous with inside loo and bathroom, gardens front and back. bit of a difference to the 2 up 2 down terrace with backyard in everton. I had attended anfield road (girls) up till then. thought the new place was lovely, lots of exploring with other kids on the road, remember the nursery at bottom of childwall valley road, near the bridge inn. used to walk as far as huyton with roby, but you could do that then. also jacko's pond, and blackberrying. Went to joseph williams school, that was a nice school and mr jones put me in the choir straightaway.and knew a fair few people in the prefabs.
Went to Gateacre comp in 1960, had to go to newly built junior school in craighurst road as new school not ready. my mum was a dinner lady over in the infants school. remember scary miss kerr, very strict on uniform, except for the beret, which soon got ditched by me. and all the lads had to wear short trousers.
up in new building it was easy to get lost at first. I remember miss kerr inspecting all the girls as we came out from assembly, and you were pulled out for any uniform infringement.
mr liddle was both my history and form teacher, very sarcastic but a great teacher. god help you on a monday morning if sunderland had lost at the football. also went on a school trip to germany with him his wife and girls from morrison school as i think she taught there.
I remember the Nook, woolton village and gateacre village. I haven't been back for a great number of years, and live in ireland now, i have no family back there.
