hi woodburner, the only house that I know of called Woodlands is still standing and it is in wood lane, netherley, but that was classed as part of gateacre in the last century, I think it is now owned by Mencap, could that be your ancestors old home, it is a grand victorian building?Hope I have been a bit of help, from jackanory.

Hello woodburner, Nice to hear from you; I didn't know Woodlands had ever been burned down, but I've been having a quick look at the census returns, and in 1901 Woodlands was listed as "not in occupation", but the Lodge was called "Jump's Lodge" and was occupied by Thomas Atherton, a farm bailiff. The 1891 Census shows Woodlands occupied by Henry & Mary Jump; he was a J.P. and corn merchant, born about 1820 in Liverpool. The 1881 & 1871 Censuses shows the same family, and I've also found 2 James Jumps in West Derby in 1901. One was aged 46, a safe painter living at 50 Lissant Street, and the other was aged 22, a coal merchant's clerk living at 4 Garden Cottages. I haven't gone any further, but is this your family, and have you already done any of this research yourself? It's all fascinating stuff, and if you like I can try to trace the family back as far as possible on the census returns, which I can download and send to your e-mail,
Regards, Ken

Hi, Ken many thanks for reply The only evidence of a fire at Woodlands is a cutting from an East Anglian paper stating that a statue removed from Woodlands after it had been gutted ,had been stolen from Grandmother Annie,s home , The Chantry, Ipswich I regret that the only census returns I have are those of 1881 so would be most grateful for any others you may have, also any other Jump stuff you may have have, do you by any chance know the name of Ggf's company?, he is listed as at 48 Highfield st and 75 Leeds st ,liverpool and as a miller and corn merchant, Grandfather was described as a confectioner, I can find no further details from on line directories Any other information gratefully received My email is coedybrain.sarn@virgin.net Regards Tom

Ken You said that you would very kindly obtain census details on the jumps I have now aquired quite a lot of information on them but am unable to find the names under which Grand father and Great Grandfather traded, they certainly did not do so under their own names regards
Tom
