Hi everyone,You,ve probably guessed I,m new to this site but have so many good memories of Belle Vale. We moved to Cloverdale Rd in about 1949 ?? we lived right in the middle number 200,are any of our old neighbours members of the site,Percivals(next door),Smythes,Browns who emigrated to Australia and many more who I can,t remember.I went to Joseph Williams until I was 11,(do you know that Paul McCartney went to Jo Willies). Can anybody remember the shops in Bridgefield Rd ?,Sayers, the butchers?, Waterworths, the grocers? Begleys the sweet/paper shop(where I was a paper boy for ages) the chandlers on the end,and last but not least the Chippy which was owned by I think Mrs Wilson and later by the Van-Hiens who done the best steak and kidney pie(in the fat)so good that I married Paulette and we are still married with 8 yes 8 grown up kids who think we are mad when we make a diversion to go down Childwall Valley Rd to reminisce.

Hi my name is Tony Cowperthwaite, I also moved to Cloverdale Rd in 1949 and lived in 149 Cloverdale Rd. I also went to Jos Williams until I was 11. My best mate was Frank Cowen( on leaving school he went into a hair dressing shop in Picton Rd). I have two brothers Peter and John. John was born 18 years after me. If you would like to reply I will find some photographs and send them to you. I loved living in Bellevale though it was very cold in the winter but still have very found memories of all the friends and the fun we had.
Regards
Tony C

Hi Louie,
I too am new here but already having a ball having found somebody I know in the first thread I read.
I remember you well, I think you had a brother Francie. I also remember Paulette and her parents. I seem to remember my mother knew Paulette's parents from the south end somewhere, perhaps around Kent Gardens.
The butcher's name was Harry, I think it was a Dewhurst shop. There was also a draper's at the top end. The guy used to take pics of all the kids and Mums would go in and buy them from the pinboard. I think the chandler's was rum by Miss Wick.
Bill Smythe was my sponsor when I got confirmed. They were also good friends of my mother, as indeed were your parents.
I hope you read this, it would be good to hear from you.
