Hi all,
I have recently been researching Grange Weint, and wondered if anybody could help me out!
Really I am looking to find further information on the architect who designed the properties, and also to understand what lay here before the townhouses. I have found a map from 1960 of Gateacre which suggests that this was possible just a walkway at the time. However, I have found an article on a planning submission which had been approved on 09/04/1964 granting permission for dwelling houses/bungalows or apartments to be built behind Rose Cottage - I think it would make sense that this article refers to the properties on Grange Weint given Rose Cottage is the first property on the road/Grange Lane.
Does anybody have any photographs they can share with me of the land/the construction of the properties? Or even just photographs from the 1970s period?
Appreciate this is a big ask but honestly it would mean so much if you could help!!
Best wishes, Amy

So I emailed the website where I found the planning permission and asked if they had any further documents relating. I was advised that everything was disposed of after ten years when the documents were no longer relevant for storage purposes, however the lady attached the one file they had left - and it was the contract with the council and Fawn Oak Properties Ltd which was the certificate granting permission to build 16 three-storey townhouses and one detached house on the land at the rear end of Rose Cottage! Under one term - that the existing sandstone wall be retained! BINGO!
I know that Elm House Mews and Cherry Vale (both off Halewood Road) have similar houses (from what I've seen online they are a little bit smaller), along with Rock Mount Close in Wootlon, but is anybody aware of any others? The properties are so unique and I'm intrigued by them. If possible, I'd like to research their history a bit more and learn whether they were designed and built by the same architects under Fawn Oak Properties, however it's proving difficulty finding ANY information of this company (and a few of the estate agents the homes were listed with originally), it's as if they didn't even exist - does anybody know anyone who may have worked there? Their offices were based at 1-3 Stanley Street in the City Centre.
The homes were listed for sale in 1969 - and the permission was only granted on 23rd September 1968, so they had a quick turnaround by the looks of things!!
Information overload (sorry!), however I thought it was important to share. The local community may find this valuable - and if anybody ends up in my position researching, hopefully now they'll be able to see this topic and enjoy reading. I do have all these websites and documents saved, along with the newspaper ads - if anyone would like them please do contact me as I'd be happy to share. I've really loved researching and I will continue to keep at it.
I've been lucky enough to spend some time in Grange Weint this year, I hope one day I am lucky enough to own one of these homes myself, safe to say it would be loved and appreciated.
Please if anybody does have any photographs of the land before the houses were built can you share them with me? Or even if anybody has any reference of the construction!
Thank you all.
