Hi all - have they demolished the flats at the top end of Beechill Close? I mean the blunt end, not the open end. My Nan used to live there in no 19 and I remember all the old people who lived there. Does anyone know why they were demolished, and when? Thanks. Lynda

Hello Lynda, I remember the flats and the "old people" almost opposite our house. The flats were still there in 2000, but by 2006 they had gone. I don't know why. Here is a pic of my sister in our garden, taken in 1959, you can see the flats just behind. And here is the 192.com aerial view showing a scruffy empty space where the flats were Regards, Ken

Thanks Ken. That pic of your sister with the flats behind her just gave me a blast of nostalgia (for my Nan and the flats - I didn't know your sister ;D) I wonder whether they were demolished because there was something wrong with them? I suppose that all of the old people I knew who lived there would have gone by the time they were demolished though. My Nan died in 1980. Lynda

Lynda, they needed too much work on them so they have built quite nice sheltered accomodation. I remember Ronnie who worked on the blue van. His family ( Wanstalls ) lived in Beechill Close.

Steve Owens I remember Ronnie who drove the mobile shop van. I didn't know his family lived in Beechill Close. I do remember that he was a staunch evertonian though. He once took my sister to a football match because she was a mad evertonian too.
