I was down in Allerton my next door nieghbours were German well the mans wife was here name was Helga lovely lady had two sons cant remember thier names. Thay had a bit of a hard time but I thought thier mum was great .
Dont believe in school re unions open up old wounds especialy for guys. A bit american .
When you come on line it might cheer you up to see you have a reply. A bit like a message in a bottle well were I live the bottle would probably take two years.

I did attend the 50th Anniversary of Gateacre Comp had a lovely evening but was sorry only about 6 of us from the first year the school opened were there. It was great to see two of the teachers that were there at the start Mr Edwards and Miss Procter both coincidently ex P.E teachers and looking great nothing like the age they must be. I don't think there will be another reunion as the school is due to be demolished so pleased I made the effort.

Well Ingrid will be well pleased if she ever logs in again. It just goes to show that if you wait long enough something turns up. Not another school being demolished whats wrong with Liverpool education. Some of the worst schools in the country still around (I do not mean Liverpool) no green areas and surrounded by traffic.Yet good schools like the following Aigburth Vale ,houses ,Hillfoot houses, Holt , Quarry bank , Rose lane, Gilmore, Heath Road .etc.,. All gone.
Liverpool has started to expand again so why all the closures.
For me I could not go to a re union looking at old photos is one thing but looking back at some negatives ,best to forget and remember the good times.
Probably better for girls as you think all us guys are daft anyway.
Most of the kids are probably all over the world now so manny of us had to leave in the mid seventies.
With thirty two million wasted on Allerton station you wonder what the council is up too.
Now if it was a motor re union then your talking.
Anyway very pleased to hear that you enjoyed it must be the good clean fresh air around Gateacre that keeps their teachers fresh or maybe they have not lived.
I dont no what I am on about anyway my school has been demolished The Holt. What a waste of a well built school. With history and presence.
Better watch out this thread is coming alive.

I had no idea the Holt had gone, I went to night school there for shorthand typing back in the dark ages. we used to go over to the Fiveways for a pale ale afterwards.

I know the pub but I have never been in there though. It was a great school but when it changed to a comp it was as if the air had gone from our sails. All those teachers moving back and forth from one school to the other.
A total culture change.
Lots of girls so that was that who wanted to learn French anymore.
At the same time the world appeared to stop.
No sandwiche courses no visits from prime companies or the military.
Suddenly the teachers telling us that there are no jobs out there anymore.
That was when you needed a degree to be a bin man.
Didn`t realy bother me that much at the time ,as ,like most Liverpudlians I wanted to see the world.
Managed to survive but my brothers that beat the change did a lot better with their schools.
All gone full circle again, yet again. What a waste of such good talent. Never mind I too might have ended up like Peter Pan if I had of stayed.
What has always kept me going is the thought that no matter where I go or what I do ,there is always someone I know in Liverpool that would give me a bowl of soup. Not manny people can say that of the towns and cities that they live in.
Pitman was that the course is that the spelling.
No need for that anymore ,well if you have a recorder or instant type speech conversion.
It was not just the schools closing it was as if all the Inustrial estates closed overnight. Lucky that we could go to London.
For anyone now though it is not the same opprtunities have changed quality of life is less and its very violent. When I went cockneys were like me and there was lots of Liverpudlians to help.(social info)
I have great memories of the Holt and Fiveways but better memories of the Girls from Childwall valley ,King David and of course Olive Mount. My mum used to always say your school time will be the best days of your life ,enjoy them ,in some respects they were ,no rent rates mortgage ,bills , but for the rest I have had good times and some bad very bad but the good and the great times , came from ,our passion for life and the confidence we get from being Liverpudlians.
