Has anyone else seen the revised plans for renovation of the former brewery/Cleggs factory at the bottom of Gateacre Brow? There are to be 3 new 3-storey blocks giving a total of 22 flats with an estimated 79 new residents. Given that Sandfield Road will be their only exit onto Gateacre Brow, and that there is already a problem with traffic and parking in the area, I think this is unacceptable. There should be fewer flats and a maximum of 2-storey buildings to avoid overwhelming the current listed cottages.
What does anyone else think?

I cannot believe they will allow this in a conservation area, and it is a listed building, I do not live in the area anymore, but my mum lives i n Woolton, so i,m passing nearly everyday. I knew the previous owners Mr and Mrs Clegg , they were lovely people, and good friends of my parents. Also, since doing my family history, iv,e also discovered that one of my relatives Ellen Cross lived there in 1841, her husband was a brewer, then the Gregorys took it over , they were brewers from Tarbock. The acsess is not very good, I have not seen any plans or anything, but hope that local people will make sure that the listed building officers are doing there job .Please let me know what is the latest plans, and I hope they are sympathetic to the area and surroundings. Thanks for your concerns.

I cannot under stand anyone wanting to build Flats /apartments at the present time . If you want to commit financial suicide may be. You only have to look around the City there are hundreds of flats /apartments for sale and rent . There are in the Gateacre Woolton Childwall area of the City many Sheltered Flats / apartments also for sale or rent . Do we honestly want anymore?

All over England cottage brewery`s have opened up,
In Germany and Belgium they are almost protected . Unlike here in Liverpool where almost any business can be bought out by a foreign competitor ,only to be closed down when the dust settles.
We are in the EU now so grants are avialable.
I am sure that if a few of you ,if so minded could get yourselves orgsnised and reopen the brewery maybe on a smaller or the same scale. Then that would be that.
That is if you can get the site for a reasonable amount of money.
As for the comment regarding the plan is to big and on this financial market any building would be unwise.
Once you have permission the site goes up in value without actualy breaking ground .
You can then borrow against that ,and use the money for another venture.
So manny buildings in and around Liverpool have been used in this way.
If you are concerned Garston is a prime example of such behaviour.
South Liverpool fotball ground closed even though they had good support things were promised but it is only now with the new railway station that it has been used. How manny years was it vacant.
The last thing a village such as Gateacre wants is to end up as Garston is now.
The Germans did less damage than what has been allowed to happen there.
So if you can get the land try a new brewery.
Also be on guard for the old faithfull of builders.
My friend owned a collection of houses and a mansion house lots of history and famous residents and workers.
He sold it to a builder .
It has all new buildings now.
where is political punch when you need it.
The above is my opinion and does not reflect on any individual or company.
