Hello everyone,
Have come across this site whilst reminiscing during lockdown about blissful childhood in the 1950's and early 60's in Whinhurst Road
So, I am 70 now and went to Joseph Willams and then Holt, Childwall Fiveways
I was sad to see the site appears to have become a bit fragmented and disjointed and that there have been very few messages recently which is a shame as there was something special about the prefab community that was created and which shines through in some of the things I have read - total nostalgia I know but very true
It would be nice to travel down memory lane and get this Gateacre Site active again and read about how other names have done in life and where they are now so am throwing in a few wholly random word memories in the hope it will kindle some interest. I'll look in periodically
Joseph Williams, Miss Smythe and her green Morris Minor, Mr 'Pop' Gore, Wallard, Spiller, Miss Deighton, Miss Ross, the rocking horse in the infants class, Mr Stewart, Mr Herbert, his winning football teams
Begleys, the chippy, the chandlers and it's smell of meths
The thick ice on the inside of the windows of the prefabs and the cylinder of frozen cream on the morning (full cream) milk. Mr Prickett's farm and milkround
Jimmy Cain mobile vegetable delivery man
Rimmer's Farm and being chased by him when we climbed the fence and crossed the brook from Cloverdale into his pea fields - frequently
The swings the other side of Childwall Valley Road and getting legged by Billy Tinwhistle the cocky watchman
I intend continuing with the epistle but am going to posting this so far..... to test if the site is still operational
