Hello everybody - those who have been writing in about Gateacre. I have been talking to someone today who I met , and he remembered the GUY family who had a farm in the area, and kept cows on the farm. the farm was in Grange Lane somewhere opposite the Black Bull... near where Mr. Davenport lived..... I remember someone saying that the Guy family used to deliver milk by horse & cart. Does anyone have a photo of the Guys farm.......it was there I think in the 1960's or before Are there any members of the Guy family still around ? who might know more about the area........ Who remembers Mr. Davenport....He had a shop on Grange Lane. Also someone mentions Mordecai Cocket -He was a joiner ? This name goes back in Gateacre Many many years. I know he is buried in All Saints, Childwall. I think it was 'Coxhead' who mentioned the name....... This was a farm which goes back many many years....... I can't remember exactly where abouts it was.
Also Gateacre used to have a good cricket team in at least early 20thc before the 1st war..... they played on the cricket field Belle Vale Road.
for now
