HELLO.i HAVE STUMBLED ONTO THIS WEBSITE BY ACCIDENT AND GLAD I DID.My Grandparents lived in Gateacre first in Halewood Road, the cottages opposite The Brown Cow and then moved into THURNHAM the house next door to now Woolton Social Club on Belle Vale Road. This used to be their garden!!! As a child I thought it was HUGE. My grandfather GEORGE owned the garage/taxi firm in Grange Lane and was known as a gambler.....Thank goodness my grandmother Annie was a strong woman. She was from Halewood (North End and the daughter of James Hayes and Ellen Robinson) It was researching St Nicholas Church that I found this forum. My memories of Gateacre are happy as my mother Renee CORBISHLEY often spoke of her happy childhood playing on Victoria's statue ,visiting Jim Blundells stables in Grange Lane (now mews cottages). She married Roy Cornish who lived in Hollytree Road. His mother Agnes married John Bertram Cornish. When we as a family came to visit they both would comment on all the new buildings and say the 'village' feel was disappearing.I remember the excitement of going to town on the train with Nanny. If anyone out there can remember anything at all re these families..Sadly I realise it may be too far back and people move away.I should have started this research years ago. I went for a drink at the Bear and Staff recently and a wander along to the 'cricket field' opposite Thurnham where we used to have a kickaround..... Will finish here and hope I hear news soon Bye Sally x

Hi, I know this message was put on this site a few years ago now but I am researching the Corbishley Family Tree. My Father-in-Law is Ronald Corbishey and his Dad was George Corbishley. They lived in Gateacre.
Any contact would be greatly received.
Many Thanks
L Corbishley
