alenamp, I lived at coxhead farm from 1938 to 1950,( Possibly '49) My father was the farm baliff for Harrison Jackson who also owned Childwall House Farm. Some of the older people in the village still called it 'Capsticks Farm'. I don't know anything about the Capsticks but someone told me when I was a kid he hanged himself there, I have no idea if this is true or just another kid trying to scare me. Perhaps Ken can add to this.

It was near the railway, as can be seen on Kens map. The house stood where they later built the Cats Whiskers pub.

The Capstick family moved to Cockshead Farm prior to 1901 when my great grandfather Roger Capstick arrived with his family. My grandfather James Capstick took over the farm following his death in 1910 and married Margaret Rawlinson who I’m lead to believe had worked at Gatacre Hall (any info on the Hall gratefully received). James and Margaret had three children as has already been pointed out on a previous post. Edward was the eldest, then Dorothy my mother and then Muriel. Alas, Uncle Ted and my mum Dorothy are deceased but my Aunt Muriel is still alive and lives locally. My mum worked in the Bear Brand factory when she left school. I think she was a manageress when she left. I’m not sure when the Capsticks left Cockshead farm, perhaps someone could enlighten me. I would also like to hear from anyone who new the family and if anyone has any photos of the farm. I never visited the farm as it was in the process of demolition when I was born. Regards Brian
