I wonder if anyone can tell me anything about an alleged hanging which is supposed to have taken place in our house in the 1970's? We live in Cherry Vale, and a neighbour told us recently that our house is supposed to be haunted - we have actually heard scraping and banging noises coming from the attic and sometimes our cats will just spook, and not want to go upstairs (very unlike them, given their affinity for lying on the beds doing nothing!) If anyone remembers anything about a hanging in Gateacre ever being reported, we'd like to hear about it, in case it has anything to do with our ghost!

Hello Hooper we havent been on here for ages, as we have actually moved out of our ghostly house now, we've moved down the road to Hunts Cross, and this house thankfully doesn't appear to be haunted! Cats are now safely installed in their usual positions at the foot of the bed.

I'd love to look into the story.

Hi I remember this. It was about 1974. I went to Gateacre comprehensive at the time. The man who hanged himself was called Mr Clare. He was a maths teacher, who had only been at the school for three days. He taught my class. My friend lived in the same road as him. Cherry Vale. He apparently had two young children. He hung himself from the staircase, so we were told. Nobody knew why....... I hope this helps. As I said, he was only at the school for about three days, but he was weird.

Ok hi there I’m not from Gatacre but I did work at gatacre hall for a few months before they sold it to developers which I thought was very very sad what a beautiful building the rooms were old fashioned and some where stifling when you went in but while I was there I was told about a ghost called Alice she was thrown down the well and haunted the hotel Now since I was a little girl I’ve always seen apparitions sometimes shadows sometimes actual ghosts so I was aware that I may come across Alice one day and I wasn’t looking forward to it , so imagine my surprise when I saw a man sitting in a chair ( which wasn’t there ) it was winged backed and in the bar area ! So I’m polishing the brass on the bar one morning and I glanced across the room and there he was looking through the window sat on the chair smoking a long white pipe now what WAS amazing about him was he was dressed in medieval clothes I think well he was in a mustard yellow suit when I say suit it was knickerbockers white tights and a waistcoat white ruffle shirt ? I did look at him For some time because I wanted a reaction and he never moved he just looked straight out of the window so after about 3 minutes I turned away to carry on with my job and I looked again and he was still there so I thought hmmm I’m going to get the receptionist to come and see this and off I went and low and behold when we got back he had gone but I swear if I hadn’t of left he may of stayed there quite comfortably I wasn’t scared just intrigued and I was use to ghosts but I have NEVER come across an ancient one like this if I could draw I’d of drew him he was wonderful x
