My Great Great Grandfather, Randall St John Corr died at The Laurels, Gateacre in 1868. He had previously resided at Gateacre House, Grange Lane, Gateacre. Family oral history reports that he had invested in some land which was to be resumed by the government for a railway line, but the government changed its mind and he died of the shock at the great financial loss. His death certificate states that he died of epilepsia. I've read elsewhere that the railway ran adjacent to Grange Lane at Gateacre and was opened in the late 1870s. Would any rail buff have any history of decisions which led to the chosing of the 1870s rail line route? Paddy
