Hello, My Mum moved to Gateacre from Bootle, Liverpool for 3 years during WW2 but she can't remember the name of the school she attended. She was 9 when she moved to Gateacre. Does anybody know where I can obtain a list of schools in the area during the 1940's so I can "jog" Mum's memory and maybe locate her school records? Many thx. Janice

Two of my brothers went to St Stephens Church School . Les my brother was always in trouble with the Headmaster there ( he called him pop Ashton) but not to his face. . During the last war I believe part of the Gateacre recreation ground was used for the 'Dig for Victory' campaign . As food was short. Anyway Les and a school mate were messing around with a hose pipe and instead of watering the plants they watered pop Ashton instead who had just turned up . He was not a happy Headmaster in fact Les said he was livid. And Les payed for it with a clip round the ear. Many years later my brother Les became a Police Sergeant in the Lancashire County police and still laughed over the incident.
